| Highlights
from January 3. 2008 |
Tim opened this weeks show in typical fashion by
leading the audience in the "Pledge To The Flag". The
ACMA family has several events coming up including the
Song Of The Mountains special taping in Marion, Virginia
on Saturday, January 5 featuring Curly Seckler,
Larry Sparks & the Lonesome Ramblers, the Steep
Canyon Rangers and The Kruger Brothers.
We will also be having "Curly Seckler Day" right here at the
Pickin' Porch on Sunday, January 6. There will be an
unveiling of Mr. Seckler's new exhibit that will surely be a
huge attraction for the
Mountain Music Museum. |

Tedd Graves, nephew of "King of the Dobro"
Josh
Graves stopped by the Pickin' Porch this
evening. He sang "Father, Son, And Holy Ghost", a
beautiful song about a man who lived in the mountains. He
finished up with a tune called "Colors", a very
moving tribute to our nation's Veterans. |

We were treated to the wonderful sounds of a pre-eminent
group of young musicians who call themselves 85
Southbound for most of tonight's show. This group of
friends just got together about a month ago and decided to
form a group: Magen McKamey on banjo, Savannah
Vaughn on fiddle, Tyler Thompson on guitar,
Caleb Courtner on mandolin and Stephen Bunter on
bass.
These talented young folks picked numerous Bluegrass
standards including "Foggy Mountain Breakdown",
"Wildwood Flower" and one of the most beautiful
renditions of "Tennessee Waltz" I have ever heard! |

| Pickin' Porch favorite Tommy Shortt came
by to play a few tunes for us as well. He sang the George
Jones classic "Picture Of Me Without You" and a
beautiful gospel number entitled "I Believe He Is Going
To Come Back Someday". |

Well, that brings us to the end of another wonderful
evening of good music and good times at the Pickin' Porch.
Be sure to stop by The Lincoln Theatre on Saturday or the
Pickin' Porch on Sunday if you're in the area, and
remember that EC Miller and Gold Rush Review will be
here next Thursday evening!
