Highlights from October 5, 2006
Before we get started, I have a special message for Joan and Marvin Diver (Florida's Chad & Dimples): The Wohlford Gang says "Howdy!

Well, tonight's Pickin' Porch Show was one of the best of the year. In addition to the usual fine pickin' and singin', there was also plenty of comedy - and even a surprise or two! After leading the audience in the "Pledge To The Flag" and making a few announcements, Tim introduced the show's featured performers, the outstanding Bluegrass band Appalachian Trail.

Appalachian Trail is one of the region's most popular Bluegrass groups, and for good reason. These folks really love making great music and absolutely no one does it better!

Tonight, they gave outstanding performances of many of the great Appalachian Trail tunes that we have came to love over the past few years, including "Sunday Morning Feeling", "Pale Rider", "Can't Hold On To Much", the haunting Hank Williams classic "I'm Blue I'm Lonesome Too", and Joe Carter's "Tell Me Why" - without a doubt one of the most beautiful songs ever written.

There are countless singers in the Birthplace Of Country Music region who are blessed with voices that rival anyone in Nashville, and one of the finest singers I have ever heard graced the Pickin' Porch stage this evening. Vickie Austin's voice is simply amazing, and when she tilts her head back and let's go, the only thing you hear is perfection. And the audience was treated to plenty of that tonight!

Tim teamed up with Teddy Helton for a very entertaining "Pickin' & Grinnin'" routine just like the ones we enjoyed for so many years on the wonderful show Hee-Haw. They would pick for a few seconds, then stop and tell a joke. Well, actually Tim would tell a joke and Teddy would blush....

After several cycles of pickin', jokin' and blushin',Tim asked Teddy if he would like to sing a song, and of course he politely declined. But after seeing that Tim (and the audience) wasn't going to give up, he relented and sang "Leftover Biscuits".

When he was through, the crowd clamored for more - and again he declined. But Tim "encouraged" Teddy to sing another song, so he finally stepped up to the microphone and sang, of all things...

Confederate Railroad's "Trashy Women"! It was quite surreal watching Teddy Helton stand on the Pickin' Porch stage and sing "I like my women just a little on the trashy side!)"! I just hope his wife Phyllis doesn't find out!

Well, it was quite an interesting evening at the Pickin' Porch, and next week promises to be quite enjoyable as well because Highway 11 and The Knuckle Draggers will be the featured performers. Come on out to the Bristol Mall next Thursday evening and join in the fun!
