Highlights from February 28, 2008

We began tonight's show with our tradition of honoring the many men and women who are serving or have served our country by pledging our allegiance to the United States Flag. Tim had a few announcements to make, including information about the popular Ivan Hicks and the Sussex Avenue Fiddlers program coming to the Bristol Mall tomorrow, February 29, 2008 at 7:00pm.

The first group up were Dan Moneyhun and Old Friends. Dan Moneyhun is from Mt. Carmel, TN and plays guitar. Dan can also be seen with Paul Williams and the Victory Trio. You can catch their great show March 29, 2008 at the Southern Ohio Indoor Bluegrass Festival in Wilmington, Ohio. Dan's daughter Danielle Moneyhun joined the guys in a number called "Heaven" on which she played the fiddle and sang harmony.

Dan's "Old Friends" actually consists of a group of renowned local musicians. Carroll Hurd played guitar and hails from Hancock County, Tennessee. Tom Bullen, from Greenville, Tennessee played mandolin and fiddle. Mark Marshall on banjo and Frankie Elliott on bass are both members of Highway 11. If you missed tonight's wonderful show you can catch Highway 11 at Sycamore Shoals on March 29, 2008 or Cranberry Thistle in Jonesboro, Tennessee on April 26, 2008.

If you're interested in the music of Highway11, go to www.cdbaby.com where you can purchase their CD "Two Different Worlds". Dan and his Old Friends have a brand new release entitled "Just for the Record". If you'd like to find out more about this great project, contact Dan via email at  dmoneyhun@charter.net.

Our second group of the evening was Fall Creek Band which is headed up by Savannah Vaughn. Savannah is just 14 years old, but she is already an accomplished musician and vocalist. If you have not had the pleasure of hearing this young lady in person you're really missing out on something wonderful!

Audie also plays mandolin for the fabulous band Tennessee Skyline. They are scheduled to perform at the Carter Family Fold on March 1, 2008. Janice McCombs plays bass for Fall Creek, and she also plays on James Alan Shelton's latest project. On guitar is Ronald Vaughn, Savannah's dad. Ron and Savannah reside in Blountville, Tennessee.
