Highlights from March 1, 2007
Each and every week, Smiley operates the sound board at the Pickin' Porch, making sure that the microphones are adjusted just right. The audience and performers alike greatly appreciate the effort he puts into making the music sound so great. Thanks a bunch, Smiley!

As always, Frank Carmack did an excellent job filling in for Tim tonight. Tim was in Roanoke helping Blue Ridge Public Television raise funds on the opening day of their March Festival of Programs. Tim's very own Song Of The Mountains has quickly become one of PBS's fastest growing series so they spent much of the evening featuring highlights from the first season!

With the help of Teddy Helton, The Skinner Family kicked off the evening's entertainment by performing a number of great Bluegrass classics such as "John Henry", "Grandfather Clock", "Waiting For The Sunrise" and much more. It's always a lot of fun watching the Skinner kids show off their skills on the mandolin and dobro, and it seems like they get better every time they take the Pickin' Porch stage!

The dance floor saw plenty of action tonight as the bands performed one great dance tune after another - and as usual Mr. Fred Skeens (right) led the way.

After the Skinners had finished their set, Jason, Zane and Teddy remained on stage to pick and sing with Pickin' Porch favorite Mac Puckett. Mac puts on a great show every time he sets foot on a stage, and tonight was certainly no exception. This super-talented young man puts his entire heart and soul into every song he sings, and the audience really appreciates it!

Rounding out tonight's show was The Minton Family, a fine group of singers and musicians from Bluff City, Tennessee. The Mintons very generously volunteer their time and talents to teach youngsters how to play a Bluegrass instrument through their wonderful Heritage In Music program at Bluff City Middle School.

By participating in the program, boys and girls can learn to play an instrument at no charge whatsoever - even the instruments are provided! And when you hear the Minton Family perform it's easy to see that the Heritage In Music youngsters sure have great teachers!

Tonight, the Mintons thrilled the audience with yet another highly energetic and extremely enjoyable set of fabulous Bluegrass music. No one performs gospel songs better than The Minton Family, and tonight's show featured a number of them!

It was another fast-paced, yet very enjoyable evening at The Pickin' Porch Show, and next week is sure to be just as much fun with the ultra-talented Greg Cornett taking turns on stage with The Revelations. Why not come on out to the Bristol Mall and join in the fun?
