Highlights
from March 13, 2008 |
| Chris Hunter was the guest host of this week's
Pickin' Porch Show. Chris is a veteran, and he proudly
led the crowd in the "Pledge To The Flag". He also
reminded the audience that on the 3rd Saturday of every
month you can enjoy "Bluegrass at Bellamy's".
Bellamy's Hardware is located in downtown Surgoinsville,
TN. The super-talented
Linda Lay will be there this Saturday. The show
starts at 7:30. Call 423-345-3372 for more information. |

| Up first on the Pickin' Porch stage was The
Pleasant Hill Band. The band consists of Beverly
Horton on bass, Beverly's husband Tom Horton
playing guitar, Edison Wallin on banjo, and
Michael Honeycutt playing mandolin. They started the set
with the wonderful instrumental "Leather Britches".
They also played versions of
Rhonda
Vincent's "I've Forgotten You", "Beneath
Still Waters" made famous by
Emmy
Lou Harris, and "Dueling Banjos" where they
pitted the banjo against the mandolin. |

| The Pleasant Hill Band invited a young man to join them
on a few tunes. John Harvey, Jr. is just 8 years old
and attends Cherokee Elementary School in Johnson City, TN.
John is a very talented musician, and he had the crowd
cheering as he sang and played "Folsom Prison Blues". |

| John next treated us to a rousing rendition of
The
Grascals' tune "Bein' Me" where he showed off
his abilities on the dog-house bass. |

| The second group of the evening to take the stage was
Dixie Rhythm. Tommy Smith from Morristown, TN
plays bass for the band. Tommy has a shop in downtown
Morristown called "The Trade Center" where every 2nd
and 4th Saturday morning they have a jam session from
9:00-12:00. Come on out and join in the fun. |

| Jeff Orr of Rogersville, TN picks guitar, sings,
and writes a lot of the numbers the band plays. Tonight, he
sang a tune called "Finger Lickin' Chicken" that had
the audience roaring. He also sang a very moving song about
a soldier that never made it home entitled "We Will Never
Be Over". Dixie Rhythm is heading out next week to
Nashville, TN to begin recording a CD. The legendary
Tom T. Hall
will be producing it. |

| Ashley LeBrecque of Kingsport, TN is the singer
for the group. Ashley is an honor student at the University
of TN. She is working towards a Masters degree in Accounting
with a minor in Communications. She is also planning to work
at the Ryman
Auditorium in Nashville this summer. |

Well, that's it for another Thursday night here at the
Pickin' Porch. Drop by next week when Mountain
Faith and
The Skinner Family Band are scheduled to perform.
