Highlights from March 20, 2008

Tim White was back at the Pickin' Porch Porch this week. He got the show started by leading everyone in the "Pledge To The Flag". The entire ACMA family would like to thank all the servicemen and servicewomen who have paved the way for our freedoms.

Fire in the Kitchen, a fine Appalachian Celtic Band began this weeks musical portion of our show. They played the delightful Appalachian tune "Sandy River Bell", a beautiful version of "Foggy Dew", and Tim joined them on a fantastic rendition of "Cow Bell".

The band consists of Teddy Helton of Bristol, Virginia on guitar, Debbie Shrewsbury from Abingdon, Virginia playing flutes and whistles, Tammy Martin of Emory, Virginia playing the hammered dulcimer and Linda Waltner from Jonesboro, Tennessee on violin/fiddle. Fire in the Kitchen plays at many festivals, concerts, and private events. Check out their website for more information.

Next up was a group from Sylva, North Carolina called Mountain Faith. This fine band consists of Sam McMahan on bass, Summer McMahan (age 14) playing fiddle, Brayden McMahan (age 13) pickin' the banjo, and John Morgan (age 12) on guitar.

The moniker Mountain Faith describes this group to a tee. They play at churches and festivals and have been spreading the gospel through bluegrass music together for the last five years. Visit them at www.mountainfaithmusic.com to find out about their schedule and much more.

The last band this evening was The Skinner Family Band. Jason, Jennifer, and children Zayn and Alyssa are always crowd favorites at the Pickin' Porch. Tonight they were joined by Teddy Helton on bass and 90 year old fiddler Elmer Phillips.

They entertained the crowd with several great instrumentals including "Charlotte Breakdown" and "Home Sweet Home". This week Alyssa even sang a special number for the audience entitled "You Gotta Be My Baby". We all hope she will sing for us again soon. Visit the Skinners at www.skinnerfamilyband.com to find out more about this wonderful family.
