The mood quickly became somber when Tim took the stage at
tonight's Pickin' Porch Show. After thanking the audience for
coming and extending his usual heart-felt welcome, he informed
everyone that Pat Anshutz unexpectedly passed away yesterday.

Pat was one of Tim's closest personal friends. He was also a great
friend of The Pickin' Porch Show and one of its most loyal
volunteer workers. A true lover of Bluegrass and Old-Time music, Pat
could usually be found working behind the scenes at several
local live music venues including the
Carter
Family Fold and the
Song Of
The Mountains concerts.
If you were tasked to come up with something bad to say about Pat
Anshutz you would have a very difficult time indeed. His love for
his family, his friends and his country knew no limits. When duty called, he
went bravely into battle and returned home a hero. To those of us
who knew and loved him, he always will be.
In short, Pat was a wonderful person and he will be sorely missed.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to his beloved Delores and
the rest of his family.

A Dear Friend Remembered...
Pat Anshutz
1946-2006
Pat would surely have wanted the show to go on, and so it did.
Tim and
Debbie Yates got the show off to a great start by
bringing the amazing talents of
Acoustic Heritage to the
Pickin' Porch stage, and they treated the audience to superb
performances of several Old-Time and Bluegrass music songs - some of
which they wrote themselves.
Tim, Debbie, and the gang combined tons of flawless instrumental
work with their trademark perfect harmonies to put on one of the
finest performances you will ever hear. If you have never seen
Acoustic Heritage in concert, you owe it to yourself to find out
where they'll be playing next and go!

The crowd received a special treat when young Molly & Sadie Yates
joined their proud mom and dad on stage to sing "In The Highways"
and "I'll Fly Away". It quickly became apparent that these
beautiful little girls fit right in with the longstanding musical
heritages of both the Yates and Grim families!

By now I suppose we should consider Roy Mullins a "regular"
on The Pickin' Porch Show, and tonight he gave yet another
very enjoyable performance by playing a couple of beautiful old
tunes on his harmonica. And as always, the crowd loved it!

Robby Spencer and Teddy Helton were up next, but Robby
took an uncharacteristic break from the comedy portion of his show
out of respect for his friend Pat Anshutz. Instead, he and Teddy
simply performed two of Pat's favorite "Robby" songs, including the
highly popular "Trainwreck At Tweetsie". The guys were truly
a class act tonight as they honored the memory of a great friend.

The Skinner Family finished out tonight's show with
outstanding performances of some wonderful old favorites. As always,
Zane and
Alyssa won the hearts of the audience with their
very entertaining instrumental work, and mom Jennifer did
some lead guitar pickin' for the very first time on the Pickin'
Porch stage!

Although the overall enthusiasm of everyone in the Comfort
Systems USA Performance Center was dampened a bit by the sad
news of Pat's passing, all of the performers did an outstanding job
under difficult circumstances, and the audience was very appreciative
of their efforts.
Please keep Delores and the family in your thoughts and prayers.
God bless you Delores. Your Pickin' Porch
family loves you very much.
