Highlights
from April 24, 2008 |

The first half of this evening's entertainment was
provided by
Fescue,
a popular local Bluegrass band from the Smyth County,
Virginia area. The band consists of "Fat Albert"
Blackburn on bass, Jordan Blevins playing fiddle,
Mike Goodman on banjo, Garnet Lester on guitar
and Raymond Campbell playing mandolin.
Fescue is known for their close harmonies and hard drivin'
instrumentals, and they received a well-deserved standing
ovation at the close of their set. |

| Fescue had a new musician with them tonight. Two year
old Carter Lester helped out on the fiddle! |

| Several of Fescue's members were playing brand new
handcrafted instruments made by Buddy Blevins of
Seven Mile Ford, Virginia. Buddy not only custom builds
mandolins, fiddles, banjos, guitars, and basses, he repairs
them too! Here are two fine examples of his work. Contact
the
Mountain Music Museum if you'd like to find out more
about Deer Valley Musical Instruments. |

The second half of tonight's entertainment was provided
by Bryan Osborne and the Ash Mountain Boys. The band
consists of front man Bryan Osborne playing guitar,
Jim Nixon on bass, Sam Morrow on banjo,
Anthony Bales on mandolin, Jordan Blevins playing
fiddle and Raymond Campbell on mandolin.
These guys played traditional Bluegrass tunes like
"Tennessee", "Sitting On Top Of The World" and
"Maggie". They also also treated the crowd to several
gospel numbers including "Pray For Me". |

| Heather Gillespie, Sherry Jones, Lib
Buress and Melinda Davis joined the guys onstage
for a tune. |

That's it for this week's Pickin' Porch Show.
Come by next time when Ashton Blaylock and Pine
Ridge Bluegrass are scheduled to take the stage!
