Highlights from August 2, 2007
Tonight, Tim kicked off one of the most action-packed Pickin' Porch shows that we've had in quite some time by leading the audience in the "Pledge To The Flag". Then he took a couple of minutes to remind everyone about the upcoming Song of the Mountains concert and the Carter Family Festival & Crafts Show.

Always a big hit with Pickin' Porch audiences, Ronnie Williams and Lori Carter Bennett provided the bulk of tonight's musical entertainment. For the better part of two hours these wonderful folks performed one great Carter Family classic after another - with a few Bluegrass and Country Music favorites thrown in to boot!

Ronnie is known around the world for his great love and admiration for the Carter Family's music and his exceptional style of performing it, and Lori absolutely loves singing the wonderful songs that her famous ancestors made popular so long ago. Ronnie and Lori don't get to perform together very often, but when they do the result is nothing less than magical!

Pickin' along with Lori and Ronnie this evening was Mr. G. Stanley, one of the finest guitar players to ever pick up the instrument. Mr. Stanley just celebrated his 80th birthday a couple of days ago, but you would never know it by the way he picks his guitar!

Helping out on standup bass was Mr. Bill Kelly, a fine singer and musician in his own right. At one point in the evening he decided to give his bass a rest just long enough to sing the beautiful gospel tune "I Saw The Master This Morning".

There were several visitors in the audience this evening, including Frank Massie, a very nice gentleman from Scotland. Tim invited him up on stage for a proper introduction, and it quickly became evident that he is having a blast here in the Birthplace Of Country Music region!

Tim and Teddy Helton did a little pickin' of their own while Ronnie, Lori and the guys took a short, but well-deserved break. Everyone knows that Tim is a master banjo picker and Teddy knows his way around a bass as well as anyone, but both of these guys know how to thrill a crowd with their guitar pickin' as well!

At the beginning of the show Tim told everyone that Teddy would be singing tonight, but little did we know that he would end up singing TWO songs instead of the usual one! He gave quite an entertaining performance of Confederate Railroad's "Trashy Women", and as always the appreciative audience let him know that his tremendous effort was... well, appreciated!

Teddy's cute-as-a-button great-grandson Jaiden was in the audience tonight, and when he wasn't watching the action on the stage he was running around exploring the nooks and crannies of the Comfort Systems USA Performance Center. Luckily, he took the time to stop and talk to Huey for a moment - which gave me an opportunity to snap this picture!

Tim and Teddy joined Lori, Ronnie and the gang on stage to help out on the last few songs, and in customary fashion they finished up the evening with an outstanding performance of the highly popular Carter Family gospel tune "Will The Circle Be Unbroken". This is one of my very favorite songs, and Lori and Ronnie always sing it exceptionally well!

After the show had come to an end, Cheria pointed out a familiar face in the audience: Mrs. Gay Helton ("Mommy" to Teddy & Phyllis). She had apparently been sitting there throughout much of the show along with her great-granddaughter Lori, her husband Jeremy, and their young children Aubrey and Jaiden.

What you're looking at here is three generations of some of the friendliest folks on the planet - and it would have been four if Teddy had been around! I'm sure that Gay, Teddy and Phyllis will have a great time while "the kids" are in town!

Well, yet another highly entertaining Pickin' Porch Show has come and gone, but next week we'll do it all again when Pine Ridge and Ridge Hill Bluegrass take their turns on the Pickin' Porch stage.

Special note: The Pickin' Porch "family" would greatly appreciate it if you would please keep James and Katherine Ratliff's granddaughter Casie in your prayers. Casie is suffering through some extremely serious health problems and she needs to feel the healing hand of God upon her at this trying time in her young life. Thank you so much in advance for your prayers, and may God bless Casie with His precious gift of healing.
