from September 27, 2007 |
Frank Carmack filled in for Tim White once
again and started the show off with the "Pledge to the
Flag". We were notified of a change in our October
ACMA meeting. It will take place on October 8, 2007 at
6:30pm in the Pickin' Porch area. Come on out and
join us and see what our group is all about!
The next
Song of the Mountains concert is slated for October 6
2007 at 7:00pm. This show will be taped for national
broadcast on PBS. For more information call the Lincoln
Theatre Box Office at 276-783-6093 or visit
www.songofthemountains.org. |

| First up were the
Sigmon Stringers from Newton, North Carolina. The
band consists of three generations of bluegrass performers.
Molly Sigmon is the youngest in the band at age 11.
She was the 2006 North Carolina State Fair Folk Festival
Jr. Champion in vocals and mandolin! |

| Other band members include Beau Sigmon - age 14
playing guitar and mandolin, Randy Sigmon on guitar,
Clinton Sigmon on guitar, Mark Sigmon on
fiddle and Ray Barger on bass. The other young lady
in the group is Anna Sigmon. Anna was the 2006 North
Carolina State Fair Folk Festival Adult Champion in banjo.
Anna is 17 years old. |

| The ensemble played superb instrumentals such as
"Foggy Mountain Breakdown" and "Orange Blossom
Special" and the Carter Family standard
"Worried Man Blues". Be sure and go see them in Floyd
Va. September 30 2007 at "Chateau Morissette" from 1-4 pm. |

| Next up was Nina Ketron. Nina was promoting the
upcoming "Appalachian Heritage Festival" in historic
Blountville, Tennessee. Our own Teddy Helton will be
performing with his band
Fire in the Kitchen on Saturday, September 29. For
more information visit
www.sullivancountytourism.org or call 423-323-8661. |

The second band to play was Pickin' Porch
favorites
The Skinner Family. Alyssa Skinner was
feeling better this week and treated the audience with the
tune "Bully of the town". This young lady is 8 years
old and is becoming quite the dobro pro. Zayn Skinner
may be a mere 11 years old but his expert mandolin licks
depict a veteran performer. Zayn picked us one of his
favorites "Rawhide". The crowd loved it!
The Skinners
are always ready for a Reno and Smiley tune and
didn't disappoint us with a lovely rendition of "Using my
Bible for a road map". Try to make it over to the
Bristol Mural on October 9. They will be entertaining
the crowd from 7-9pm. |

| We had guests from Bend, Oregon visiting with us
tonight. Bow, Patti, Kloey, Ken
and Lana Gail - thanks for stopping in! |

Times up for this weeks show. Join us next week when
Appalachian Trail will be playing. Come early and pick a
good seat because it's always crowded when Tommy,
Vickie and the gang are here.
