Highlights from November 16, 2006
A smiling Tim welcomed everyone to The Pickin Porch Show this evening, after which he led the crowd in reciting the "Pledge of Allegiance". He also took a few moments to remind everyone about two wonderful upcoming shows...

On November 24, the AMCA will host a special Friday night Pickin' Porch Show featuring the VW Boys and the award winning Bluegrass group The Lost & Found. Then on December 2, Marion, Virginia's Lincoln Theater will host the next Song Of The Mountains concert featuring living legend Everett Lilly and the Lilly Mountaineers!

Glenn Bolick kicked off the evening's entertainment with a wonderful show featuring plenty of comedy, great music and showmanship. Glenn is rightly proud of his North Carolina mountain heritage, and it comes through in everything he does while on a stage.

Tonight, he treated the audience to a bevy of timeless old Appalachian tunes, several gospel numbers and even a few songs he had written himself! If you have never seen this highly energetic and extremely talented fellow perform before, you're really missing out.

As in his previous appearance on The Pickin' Porch Show, Glenn invited his lovely wife Lula and close friend Charlie Glenn to join him on stage to help perform a few numbers including the Carter Family classics "Wildwood Flower" and "Anchored In Love" as well as the beautiful old hymn "In The Sweet Bye And Bye".

Next up was the ever-popular Old Timer's Band from Washington County, Tennessee. These fine gentlemen picked and sang a number of Bluegrass and classic country songs such as "You Win Again", "Turkey In The Straw", "Train 45" and several renditions of "The Chicken Reel" as Tim held a drawing for a couple of pairs of free concert tickets plus twenty - yes, I said 20! - chicken sandwiches, courtesy of long-time Pickin' Porch sponsor Chick-fil-A!

The dance floor was really hopping tonight with all the good dance music filling the air, and as usual the youthful septuagenarian Fred Skeens (right) led the way! Fred loves to kick up his heels and have a great time wherever music is being played, and the crowd really loves watching him do it!

Everyone who ventured inside the Comfort Systems USA Performance Center this evening had a great time at The Pickin' Porch Show. Next Thursday is Thanksgiving, so there will be no regular show that night. But on Friday, Tim and the fine folks at the ACMA will be hosting a special concert featuring our own VW Boys and The Lost & Found.
