Highlights from November 2, 2006
The action was fast and furious at tonight's Pickin' Porch Show with several groups and individuals taking the stage to deliver a ton of great traditional music and comedy. Actually, the action got started before the show even began when Andrew and Tim caught everyone's attention by having a touching grandpa-grandson "chat"!

Tim kicked off the evening by leading the audience in the "Pledge of Allegiance" and reminding everyone about the upcoming special show featuring the Lost and Found and his very own VW Boys. A bit later, he and a very special bovine thanked Wild Ray Parlier and Chick-fil-A for their long-time support of the Pickin' Porch Show.

The highly energetic Whitetop Mountain Band kicked off the evening's entertainment by pickin' and singin' a host of wonderful Old-Time and traditional Country songs. These folks really know how to thrill a crowd, and they did exactly that tonight as they performed "Walking In My Sleep", "Ruby", "Jackson" and many more perennial favorites.

Any time the Whitetop Mountain Band gets on a stage, you'll find people dancing up a storm to their lively fiddle tunes, and the Pickin' Porch is certainly no exception. There were so many people dancing tonight that for a minute I thought I was at the Carter Fold!

Mr. Roy Mullins was with us again this evening, and as usual he treated everyone to some fine harmonica work on the classics "Josephine" and "Uncloudy Day". Whenever Roy can make it out to the show, Tim invites him up onto the stage to play a song - but somehow he always manages to squeeze in two of them...and the crowd doesn't mind a bit!

Thanks Roy. We sincerely appreciate your music and your willingness to share it with us, and we hope you'll be around to entertain us for a long, long time!

Since Ed Carter was such a big hit during his first appearance on the Pickin' Porch stage, Tim asked him to come up again tonight to tell another joke or two. He did...and I expect we'll be seeing a lot more of Ed in the future because he really knows how to leave an audience in stitches!

The Skinner Family returned to the Pickin' Porch stage this evening, and as always they did an outstanding job on several favorites including "John Henry" and "Tennessee Blues". It's always fun when the Skinners take the stage because young Zane and Alyssa get better every time we see them...and they're already great!

Once again, the ever-so-quiet Teddy Helton reluctantly stepped up to the microphone to sing Confederate Railroad's "Trashy Women", and just as before the crowd went wild as he softly sang the words that are so out of character for him. Teddy is a wonderful man and a great entertainer, and everyone really appreciates how he "goes the extra mile" to satisfy the demands of a restless audience!

As she often does when the Whitetop Mountain Band is performing, 9 year old Madison Massie demonstrated her fine fiddling skills on "East Tennessee Blues", "Stinky's Blues" and the wonderful old classic "Sally Ann". Madison takes lessons from fiddle virtuoso Rachel Johnson, and it's easy to see that she is an excellent student!

It was a very busy and exciting evening at the Comfort Systems USA Performance Center.
