Tim White kicked off this week's special Pickin
Porch show in usual fashion and led the crowd in the
"Pledge To The Flag".
Tonight we celebrated
Beth Stevens and Edge's brand new CD "Strong
Enough". The band entertained the crowd with lots of new
material from this latest project and some old favorites
too.
The group's lead vocalist and banjo player is Beth
Stevens. Beth resides in Roan Mountain Tennessee and has
been performing since the age of twelve. This
singer/songwriter has shared the stage with many of music's
top artists such as Dolly Parton and Dale Ann
Bradley.
Beth's children joined the band on stage and picked a
couple of tunes. Chase, age 13, played fiddle and
mandolin.
Drew, age 9, played bass and mandolin.
Beth's father, Doug Stevens played guitar for the
group. He and his wife Betty started the band The
Stevens Family Band in 1980 and was a huge influence on
Beth's musical career.
Greg Hodge played mandolin. He's played with
other great bands such as Knoxville Grass and Dale
Ann Bradley.
Playing dobro for the band was Matt Leadbetter.
He's played with great acts like The Lonesome River Band
and Marty Raybon.
Gary Wayne Laws played bass and resides with his
family in Elizabethton, Tennessee.
Don't forget that the Pickin' Porch stage will
remain dark this Thursday so everyone can spend Thanksgiving
with their loved ones. We will continue our regular shows on
Thursday, December 4, 2008. The ETSU Bluegrass Band
and Addie Keene & Friends are scheduled to perform. We wish all
of you a safe and happy Thanksgiving.
