Highlights from May 29, 2008
 
Tim White began tonight's show by filling everyone in on the happenings coming up at the Song of the Mountains. On Saturday, June 14th, The Song of the Mountains series is having a special taping for PBS television. This show features Naomi's Fancy, Gold Heart, Pine Mountain Railroad and CherryHolmes. Bill McCall & Friends were the first group to take the stage. Bill's "friends" include Teddy Helton on bass, George Blevins playing autoharp, Jimmy Carter picking the mandolin, John Clark on harmonica, Tim White playing banjo and Mac Puckett on guitar.



Bill McCall hails from the Bethel area of Washington County, Virginia. At age 83 he is still farming and playing the music he loves.


Mac Puckett, Teddy Helton and Tim White treated the crowd to a couple of instrumentals: "Foggy Mountain Rock" and "Bill Cheatum".

Surefire, a fantastic group out of Boone, North Carolina fired up the audience with tunes like "The Red Haired Boy", "Big Spike Hammer", and "The Old Old House" the title cut from their new album. To find out where these guys are playing next log on to www.surefirebluegrass.com


Tim Norris, the oldest of the group plays bass. Tim can also be seen picking with The Dollar Brothers.


Robby Norris, age 14, played the mandolin.


Tyler Thompson, age 16 picks the guitar.


John Bryan, age 17, picked the banjo and sang lead.
