Highlights
from May 8, 2008 |
| Chris Hunter led the crowd in the "Pledge To
The Flag" and reminded everyone of "Bluegrass on
Broad", a weekly gathering on Broad Street in Kingsport,
Tennessee. Bluegrass music concerts featuring local bands
are held every Friday during the warmer months. |

| Banjo Joe and his band "The Generations"
took the stage first this evening. At the ripe old age of 8,
Joe Bevins is already an accomplished musician. He
picked a number of tunes including "Old Rattler" made
famous by
Grand Ole Opry great Grandpa Jones and "Rocky
Top", the unofficial fight song of the University of
Tennessee Volunteers. |

| The Generations Band remained onstage and
continued to entertain the audience. They sang "Keep On
The Sunny Side" and "How Mountain Girls Can Love"
among others. The group consists of Phil Bevins on
banjo, Teressa Bevins playing bass, Leroy Vanover
playing guitar and Charly Markwart on mandolin. |

| The Chick-fil-A Chicks, Christina and
Katelyn show the crowd a sign indicating Chick-fil-A
rocks! |

| Pickin' Porch favorite Roy Mullins treated
the crowd to a tune on his trusty harmonica. |

| Next up were the Back Porch Pickers. This group
includes members Eric Whitesell on guitar, Mike
Hankins on dobro, Joshua Merritt on banjo,
Herbert Hess on rhythm guitar, Charly Markwart on
mandolin, Charlotte Whitesell on bass and Leroy
Vanover on guitar. "Bury Me Under The Weeping Willow"
and "Will The Circle Be Unbroken" are a couple of the
Carter Family tunes they played. The also picked the
Roy Acuff hit "Wabash Cannonball". |
