Highlights from June 19, 2008
 
Tim White was back at "The Porch" this week and kicked the show off by leading the crowd in the "Pledge To The Flag".

Tim also had several announcements about upcoming events in the area. The Song of the Mountains 2nd Annual Festival begins Thursday, June 26th and runs through Saturday, June 28th. The festival boasts famous acts like Goose Creek Symphony, Rhonda Vincent and Grand Ole Opry star Jesse McReynolds. There are also pre-festival activities scheduled in Saltville, VA on June 23rd and Marion, VA on June 25th. Check out their website for further information.


 
Art Lang and Cathy Ciolac were first to take the stage this evening. Art and Cathy have played at numerous festivals and concert series in the surrounding states. They'll be over in Gatlinburg, TN on June 24-June 26 2008 at Alewine Pottery.



Art Lang played guitar, banjo, and fiddle and sang vocals. He was featured on the banjo tune "Tempie Roll Down Your Bangs".


Cathy Ciolac played autoharp and dulcimer and sang vocals. Cathy was featured on the autoharp during the number "Dreaming Of A Little Log Cabin".

Next up was Billy Smith & Nashville's Finest from Nashville, Tennessee.


Billy Smith played guitar and sang most of the vocals. Billy is an accomplished singer/songwriter and has a new gospel album out entitled "Five Flat Rocks".

Marilyn Smith played bass and was featured on the song "Keep On The Sunny Side".



Ned Luberecki picked the banjo. Ned can be heard on Sirius Bluegrass Radio Channel 65.


Shad Cobb played fiddle for the group. He was featured on the fiddle tunes "Squirrel Huntin'" and "Fire On The Mountain".

Rocky Alvey joined in to sing "Muddy Coal Mine", a song about the dangers of coal mining and a particular incident involving his grandfather, Jesse Reynolds.
