Highlights from June 5, 2008

Tim White got the show started with an announcement about an upcoming concert in the area. The Carter Family Fold will be having their Master Musicians of the Crooked Road show Saturday, June 7th, 2008 beginning at 7:30. Check out their website for more information.

Bill and Maggie Anderson took the stage first tonight. The Andersons came over from Woodlawn, Virginia, and as always they put on a great show.

Bill Anderson is a well-known luthier and certified Martin Guitar repairman. He played a 1935 Epiphone Archtop guitar during their rendition of "50 Miles Of Elbow Room", a song made famous by The Carter Family. He also used a guitar he handcrafted during much of the show.

Maggie Anderson played the dobro and autoharp. Their versions of "Wabash Cannonball", made popular by Roy Acuff and "Dobro Chimes" by Brother Oswald Kirby had the crowd cheering.

Ed Carter stopped by to tell a couple of "true stories".

Next, Keeping Tradition, a fine Bluegrass group from the Pounding Mill, Virginia area took the stage to entertain the audience.

Robert Lester played guitar and sang lead on many tunes. He got things started with the song "Swinging A 9 Pound Hammer".

Mitchell Van Dyke picked the banjo. He was featured on the Don Reno number "Banjo Riff" and the claw-hammer tune "Rocky Island".

Tollie Fleming played the doghouse bass and hails from Clintwood, Virginia, home of the Ralph Stanley Museum.

Mark Baker played guitar and helped out with some vocals. He comes from the fine town of Clinchco, Virginia.
