Tim White began tonight's show by leading everyone in the "Pledge To The Flag" and reminding us about the upcoming musical events at some of our local venues.

The "Pickin' in the Gap" takes place September 5, 2008 at Volunteer Speedway in Bulls Gap, Tennessee and features Balsam Ridge, Pine Mountain Railroad, Highway 11 and Gold Heart. The Pickin' Porch audience got a sneak preview of Gold Heart's performance during tonight's show. Song of the Mountains is having their September taping on Saturday at 7:00pm. Scheduled to perform are The James King Band, Donna Hughes, Larry Stephenson Band, Big Country Bluegrass and Zephyr Lightning Bolts.

First up this evening was Brittany Reilly with Almost Acoustic Band. These fine musicians hail from the great states of Ohio, Florida and North Carolina. They have a brand new album out entitled "Good Old Country Sound" and treated the crowd to several tunes included on it. They picked self-penned songs and well-known Bluegrass numbers like "Blue Ridge Cabin Home" and "How Mountain Girls Can Love".

Brittany played mandolin, Billy Gilmore played banjo and fiddle and Brent Hopper played the guitar. Be sure and check out their website for information on how you can pick up one of their CD's or to find out if they will be performing in a town near you.

The second half of tonight's show featured the band Gold Heart from Leesburg, Virginia. The band consists of three sisters: Analise Gold playing mandolin, Jocelyn Gold on guitar, and Shelby Gold on fiddle, their dad, Trent Gold playing bass and 2007 Virginia State Banjo Champion Zach Gilmer.

This fabulous group already has one CD under their belt and are expecting the release of their second album within the next couple of weeks. Log on to their website to find out more about this wonderful group and where you can purchase some of their fine music.
